Frequently Asked Questions
What does Green Village Recycling do with the materials collected?
All materials collected are taken to the WM single stream recycling center in Nashville. The facility is designed to accept specific materials, and non-recyclables must unfortunately be disposed of as trash. The less trash contamination in the cart, the more usable materials for processing and repurposing. This is why it’s so important that only approved materials are collected curbside.
What materials can I put in my cart?
There are three golden rules to remember:
1. Recycle plastic bottles, aluminum/metal cans, paper and cardboard.
2. No food or liquid.
3. No loose plastic bags (grocery) or bagged recyclables.
What materials are NOT recyclable?
We do not accept the following: Styrofoam, glass, food waste, plastic bags, or plastic wrap/bubble wrap.
Why is glass not accepted curbside?
We utilize a single stream recycling facility meaning all materials are mixed in a single cart and later sorted at the facility. When glass breaks, it can no longer be cleanly sorted and contaminates the entire cart, rendering the other recyclables unusable. It can also cause injury and damage the recycling machinery.
How do I recycle plastic grocery bags?
Most large grocery stores, including Kroger and Publix, have receptacles at their entrance specifically for grocery bag recycling. Not all recycling facilities are designed to accept plastic bags due to the way they tangle within the machinery.
Where do I place my cart on collection day and what time do you come by?
Please place your cart at the curb by 7am on your collection day. Depending on your location and the order of our route, your individual pickup time may vary. We strive to have all routes completed by 5pm. In the event of a delay or reschedule (due to weather, etc.) we will email all impacted customers with an update.
Does Green Village Recycling get paid for my recycled materials?
No. Green Village Recycling is charged by weight for all materials dropped off at the single stream facility. We pay to ensure your recyclables are processed appropriately.
How do I recycle electronics, glass, household items, etc.?
There are various drop-off centers for specific materials. We recommend visiting the City of Hendersonville's recycling resources page or giving us a call.
